Bought an iPhone 11/iPhone 12/iPhone 13 recently and wondering how to take a screenshot the old way? Without a physical Home button, not only the screenshot option but the turning off the iPhone and force restarting iPhone options have also changed. However, if you follow this visual guide you can snap your first screenshot in seconds and use it for your needs.

Starting with iPhone X, Apple decided to ditch the ‘home button’ and moved on to a virtual ‘Home’.

Apple incorporated this on-screen, gesture-based ‘Home’ into all the newer devices since then like the iPhone 11, iPhone 12, iPhone 13 and iPads. As a result, you cannot hold the virtual home button down and use it for functions like screenshotting and powering off.

So, Apple switched over these functions to the remaining three buttons, the volume and the sleep/wake or side button. Apple also kept on improving features in the screenshot function through their iOS updates. You can edit, use markup tools and share the screenshot on the go with just a few taps.

After going through this guide it would be impossible for you to miss taking a screenshot ever again.

You still need only two buttons to take a screenshot on the iPhone 12. It is the Side button and Volume up button you need to use. Note: The Side button is also called the Sleep/Wake button which is present on the right side and the Volume up button is the upper button the left side.

  1.  Press the Side button and the Volume Up button at the same time.
  2.  After properly pressing them both together for about 1 second, you will hear a camera sound (not in Silent mode) and see a flash on screen.
  3.  In that instant your iPhone takes a screenshot and saves it to Photos.

In addition to this, you can take a screenshot without pressing buttons as well. Set an on-screen shortcut for this using Assistive Touch. You can set this screenshot option inside ‘Assistive Touch‘. For that you’ll need to enable assistive touch inside ‘Accessibility‘ in Settings, then customize the ‘Assistive Touch’ features to add ‘Screenshot‘ option. After this you can take a screenshot by opening this option directly from Assistive Touch.
